Engineering Eco-friendly Ideas

There are more than seven and half billion people who inhabit the earth today. According to www.theworldcounts.com/counters, there will be about 2.12 billion tonnes of waste projected to be created this year. That’s a lot of waste. What should be done to put a dent into the waste we throw out?

Individuals should closely examine the impact their lifestyle is having on our environment. It’s time for everyone to start changing habits that lead to a lot of waste. Some innovative individuals and groups have engineered awesome ideas to cut down on waste or have taken waste and created safe and durable building products out of them. Companies in some countries are also being given more incentive to have zero-waste.

In Columbia, for example, waste created from the processing and manufacturing of aluminium was a big problem because it was hard to dispose of. One innovative woman named Carolina Guerra developed a way to reuse it and make safe building products out of it. Instead of thinking for short term gains, just getting the aluminium from the refining process, she engineered an eco-friendly and profitable solution to the waste problem. The products made from the waste was turned into something useful and the waste didn’t end up in their water sources.

In Germany, an engineer Julia Romer created COOLAR which is a refrigeration system that uses solar heat for refrigeration. It is her goal to make the industrial technology already existing available in homes around the world to reduce the use of non-sustainable and polluting resources.

Another green engineering project in the works is called the Gaia dam. It is being developed in the Philippines. The dam structure would be made from recycled concrete and stone. The flood-preventing designed dams would move water to power turbines that would create energy. The structure of the dams would also have proteins and enzymes that would enter the water flowing through it that would provide nutrients to crops and kill harmful pests which would help run a sustainable organic farm.

Another way to cut down on waste, is by having systems running efficiently and smoothly without wasted energy. Parasyn – an engineering company is all about efficiency and better management by computer and internet systems. Having the a smoothly operating system cuts down on waste and can detect and predict system breakdowns. It’s important to have a great system set up for diagnostics and monitoring to prevent hazardous occurrences that are damaging to the environment.

One way for individuals to engineer their own environmentally friendly methods is by living a life with less waste. That could mean buying products that don’t have any packaging or minimal packaging. They should use reusable bags or bins and jars when shopping at stores. Bulk shopping should also be preferred as these usually make less waste. Reusable metal, glass, and plastic should be preferred over single-use containers. To monitor waste usage, note how much garbage you throw out at the end of each day or at the end of each week. To start, you could challenge yourself and your family members to see how much waste you could cut down by reusing, recycling, or avoiding single-use packaging items.
